Fruitville Road Project update:

Friday, October 9th, 2009

FruitvilleRoad Project update:  As stated on the County website, SCGOV.net, the contract for the FRCP for Phase 11 of expansion from Coburn Road east to Sarasota Center Boulevard, was signed and started on September 9, 2009…with a completion date set for October 31, 2010.

This construction project will be the widening of the current two-lane road segment to four divided lanes, closed drainage, four foot wide bicycle lanes, street lights, 10′ wide concrete sidewalks on both sides of Fruitville, water main and stormwater pipes for a 2.4 mile stretch of tree lined streets.

Phase 1 of reconstruction and widening for 3/4 mile was started on July 28th, 2009, east of Tatum Ridge Road to Debrecen Road (across from the library), and should take approximately eight months to complete.  (March 31, 2010)

Between Phase 1  and Phase 11, this reconstruction costs a total of $4.35 million dollars of the fast Track Sarasota County Economic Stimulus program of capital improvement projects.  Without this, we would still be waiting until the original delayed date previously set by the County for a start in 2016!

This is all great news for the Sun-N-Fun RV Resort community.  Guests will be able to walk or bike to the Fruitville Grove and the Sarasota Public library.  This will also help Sun-N-Fun RVers enter and exit the resort with more ease.

Focusing on You and Yours: October 2009

We cooked and ate the Mediterranean way with a menu of fresh, wholesome, heart-healthy and oh, so delicious dishes including hummus, Greek pizza and cinnamon oranges with fig and almond cake from Chef JoAnn; learned to hook up with new friends on Facebook and Tweet on Twitter with Deirdre in a social media class whose participants ranged in age from 7 to 70; got together for breakfast at O’Leary’s and the largest volunteer day of its kind, International Coastal Clean-up at Bayview Park by Marina Jacks; and celebrated the International Day of Peace with a Yoga class. And that was just in September sessions of our Focus on You and Yours.
October promises to be even bigger and better. So don’t miss a single day of what Focus on You and Yours holds in store; from a AAA Armchair Travel Tour of Yellowstone National Park and the kickoff of our Sun-N-Fun walking club to our Green Team’s Going Green at Home presentation and our Breast Cancer Awareness party.

Everyone’s Having Fun on Facebook

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
As soon as they were done licking their lips, contestants that took part in the Labor Day Weekend Chocolate Pie eating contest signed onto Sun-N-Fun’s Facebook page to catch the video clips and Smile Box slide show of the event.
Gordon Walker signed onto the Tropical Palms’ Facebook page to see if we would give him a free week’s pass when he visited the U.S.. We told him we were sorry, but we did have some great deals for friends coming all the way from Scotland.
Lori Wilson signed onto Sherkston’s Facebook page because she wanted friends to tell her all about the Las Vegas Weekend there on October 2nd thru 5th. She’s planning to attend but has never been to one before. And just when is it smart to double down?
They’re all having fun on our Facebook pages and you can too. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends when you’re away, find out what’s been happening at the resorts and make plans to attend some of great events that are coming up.
After all, unless you sign up for your favorite resort’s Facebook page, how will you ever find out about the “Great Weekend Getaway” game happening at Sun-N-Fun, discover the recipes our staff at Tropical Palms has been collecting, or watch video of the Horns from Hell when the band played at Sherkston.
So join today and get in on the good times. Start posting and sharing your stories, pictures and videos. Tell us all about the special stuff you did during your stay, local places you visited and want to turn others onto, places you stop along the road while you travel to and from your favorite resort that you think everybody ought to know about, friendships you formed and activities you took part in. Facebook is all about endless possibilities to connect and network.
Being part of the fun is as easy as clicking on the link to your favorite resort and then clicking on the box that says Become A Friend.
So sign on and sign up. Your friends are waiting for you.

Giving Back to the Community

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Beginning this month we’re going to be starting a new program, collecting dry goods and canned foods we’ll then contribute to the local food banks near our resorts. So we’re asking everyone, when you go shopping and have an extra coupon, see a great price on a pantry stable or can take advantage of a two for one offer, pick it up and drop it off at the main office. We’ll see it gets to a local food bank and a family in need. It’s our way helping foster a sense of community at our resorts with the cities and towns that surround us.
