Calling All Noodlers, Lap Swimmers, Layabouts and Waterbabies
Our pool has always been the crown jewel of Sun-N-Fun, the place where everyone gathers, and where so many memorable activities from karaoke to chocolate bingo to dive-in movies all happen.
This past year, after adding the water slide, we decided to give the pool a complete facelift. It’s been quite an undertaking but – judging from everyone’s reaction – a totally successful one. Now, after lots of hard work and patience, the pool is open again, more beautiful and better than ever… just waiting for you to dive in and be delighted.
Just how big a job was it? We’ll let the numbers speak for themselves:
- The job took 8 weeks to complete. We closed the pool right after Labor Day and held our grand reopening November 6th.
- The pool holds 210,000 gallons of water. It took almost 24-hours to refill it using one 3-inch round fire-hose and 3 regular garden hoses.
- The water surface area is 6000 square feet. How much is that? On a single day, we lose in excess of 1,400 gallons of pool water due to just evaporation.
- We used 7,560 square feet of Quartzite to refinish the interior. And every square foot was hand troweled.
- 2,600 blue tiles were used. They help make the water even more sparkling.
- 520 square feet of travertine marble was used to refinish the coping around the pool.
- To make it easier and safer getting in and out, the steps leading into the pool were widened from 6-feet to 18.
- There are six 75-foot long lanes for lap swimmers.
- We increased the pool deck by 2100 square feet and now have 650 chairs and loungers and new umbrellas. More room, more Sun-N-Fun.
The cost of the entire project was a whopping $350,000. And that doesn’t include the chocolate for chocolate bingo.
